New UP-MIX solution from AM3D transforms 2-channel Stereo into Surround SoundAM3D – the leading provider of 3D audio enhancement technology – has launched an elegant and effective software solution transforming standard two-channel stereo into surround sound, complete with a natural sound quality and precision separation of sound sources. The new solution will allow manufacturers of mobile phones or other portable digital audio devices to strongly enhance the end-user’s experience when watching films, movies or when listening to music. AM3D’s new product upmixes any regular 2-channel stereo signal
from e.g. TV or movies to surround sound in your earbuds, headset
or stereo loudspeakers by applying sophisticated psycho-acoustic
principles. The advanced digital signal processing effectively
‘tricks’ the ear into experiencing sounds as coming from various
directions, while voices are kept at the centre of the aural image.
The effect – dubbed virtual surround sound – is similar to
a multi-channel surround experience in that it produces a
convincing spatial audio effect.
“We believe that virtual surround sound and other AM3D audio enhancement solutions that boost the end-user’s audio experience offer an opportunity for manufacturers to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Manufacturers are focusing more and more on audio quality and effects, now that most portable devices such as mobile phones are already extremely feature-rich, and many are capable of playing back or streaming films and videos,” says Hans Christian Løgsted, Sales Director at AM3D. The virtual surround solution is delivered as patented software (IP) for incorporation into a digital audio device. In most cases the additional development costs for including virtual surround sound are marginal. As a further benefit, the new AM3D solution consumes only very little processing power to build the dynamic & spatial audio image. AM3D’s patented virtual surround sound solution is available for delivery immediately. AM3D will be demonstrating the solution during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 15th-18th, 2010 at Hall 2, Level 0, Stand A05. About AM3D:
